40 years ago my high school installed a safety shower in the chemistry room. But no drain. The teacher didn’t know if it ran as long as you pulled the chain, or if it delivered a fixed amount. Regardless, pulling the chain without need would earn you an immediate “Fail” for the class. A student for whom the consequence was moot pulled the chain. Fixed amount.
Once at the church I went to, the sprinkler system went haywire and flooded one of the rooms. Luckily, no one was in the room and nothing important was there either, but we had to move to the other half of the church
