Our dog, Bear, when he was a puppy found a garden snake and was pretty curious about it – my husband stopped that curiosity pretty quick. Never had another chance to find any more snakes (that I know of) and only played with sticks on occasion – he much preferred live prey.
My Sophie did exactly the same thing two days after my wife brought her home. Fifty feet of main irrigation line, along with a dozen dribblers and fan sprays for our front garden bed.
Early her first summer with us, I heard Sophie come in the dog door and sit quietly behind me (atypical behavior). I turned to see what was going on, and she was sitting there with a black snake wriggling in her mouth. When I exclaimed in surprise, she dropped the snake! Inside the house! We never did see or smell the snake again, so we’ve deluded ourselves into believing that it made its way back outside.

Snakes are for plumbing and therefore are in the basement. Doesn’t mean that Dad still isn’t hosed…
