A former pastor of ours was quite fond of LONNNNNGGG sermons. Once, during a church administative meeting, someone asked him to kindly shorten things up a bit. He said he knows when to stop when he sees Fred nod off for the third time! (I’m not Fred!)
I’ve never heard a homily in my church longer than ten minutes, and some are shorter than five.
It seems to me that if you can’t make your point in that much time, it’s more about liking the sound of your own voice than anything else – and you’ve forgotten that it’s His church, not yours.
I love the fellowship, and really love to belt out the hymms, especiaaly when people sit next to me to listen, but I’m ADD and after five minutes of the sermon, I’m not really there, unless the speaker is especially thrilling or humerous. Then,my head starts to droop.

I love Pickles, but not today. This is not funny. “For Better or For Worse” got it right with the Christmas story.
