I remember reading that back in the day, the publisher of a big Chicago paper told his editor he wanted quotes in all headlines to draw attention and add emphasis. Editor protested quotes werenât used for those purposes. Publisher insisted. Editor said, "OK, how about I run a headline that says âBIG NEWSPAPER PUBLISHER AND HIS âWIFEâ SEEN AROUND TOWNâ?" Publisher backed down.
