Yes, I was going to comment on Europe, too. I’m a reenactor in SCA and the photo shown is a simple veil with a linen band (although I wear fake cauls because I don’t have that much hair). I have studied ladies’ headwear for earlier centuries and the most fantastic were probably shortly before the great plague because there was such wealth and people wanted to demonstrate it.
And timely, yes (even though this is not this year’s) not only because some cities east of the Mississippi start to bring out their spring and summer hats (here in AZ, they get laughed at)._ Everyone was commenting on the hats worn to the Royal wedding but no one where I live would ever wear such a hat unless for a daring statement or a costume. In Chicago, I wore hats to coordinate with all my colorful business suits.
