Well, Alice, before 1940 not many people owned a car. I know that in the neighborhood I grew up in, we were the first family to own a car. That was the late 1940’s.

Actually, back before about 1940, everything was delivered: milk, baked goods, groceries, even the hardware store delivered to your house.
