I had never even heard of juneteenth until this strip. Why isn’t this listed or talked about in the mainstream media more? It seems a very pivotal point in american history…
All other thing being equal (which they never are) the slaves would have been free earlier if America had stayed British. But on the other hand if you admire the principles on which America was founded, that’s a good reason to celebrate its birthday, even if your ancestors didn’t benefit.
