In WA and OR there are no polls to vote at. You get a ballot in the mail and return it by mail or at a drop box up to a week before election.

It is ethical, Monty. The Republic is sick.

Perhaps the Argentinians, Australians, and Belgians amongst others have the right idea, and voting should not be considered as a privilege or a right, but as an obligation*, like paying taxes?

*although it has aspects of all three.

She should consider absentee voting, or early in-person voting. The polls are already open for the November 6 election. Some communities even have weekend hours for early in-person voting.

Here in California, the polls are open on Election day from 7am till 8pm….

In over half the states, if you don’t have three hours in which you can vote, either before or after your shift,

your employer MUST give you two hours off to do it, without docking your pay.

Early voting varies by state, and in some states, by county.

No polls are “already open” here, because no ballots have been mailed yet.

We can vote in person, for a few hours, at the county registrar’s office, on the Saturday before…. otherwise only on Election day.

“Vote by mail” ballots, formerly called “absentee”, can also be dropped off at any polling place on election day…. which makes it easy to run in for a moment to vote, even if you’re not near home.

Moondog can sense the bottled-up rage. Bet he starts moving away from her. Monty will no doubt be the target for the spill-over.

We vote by mail in Oregon. No excuse for not votiing. We have a week or two to fill out ballot and either drop it off at special collection boxes (like mail boxes) or put a stamp on it and mail it in. It must be in the collection box or arrive by mail by the end of election day.

I read that the Tuesday voting was to allow travel time back in the early days. Or something. It made sense at the time, but yes, time to modernize.
