I remember a Star Trek episode where Data couldn’t beat an alien at a strategy game, so he eventually resorted to stalling tactics that went on for so long that the alien got frustrated and quit. In Data’s words, “I busted him up!”

Sounds like Paige misunderstood the idea in that last panel…

When I was in college I came across a chess game once, one player had an advantage over the other player and was obviously very smug about it. I looked at the board and realized that there was a move the other player could make that would make sure the other guy couldn’t win, but it would mean he couldn’t win either. I asked the smug player if I could kibitz and he felt so secure about his win that he told me to go ahead, so I told the other player to take the other guys rook with his knight, he pointed out that the first player would take his knight and leave him with just his king, I told him that it would leave the other player with just his bishop and king and he wouldn’t be able to win. The second player considered my suggestion for a minute and then made it. The smug player took the knight and started dancing around and thanking me for giving him the win. I told him that I’d just made sure that he couldn’t win and he laughed because he knew I was wrong. I had to leave to take care of an errand, when I came back a few minutes later he was looking at the chessboard dejectedly, when I saw me he admitted that I was right, that the game had ended up with a stalemate.
