Before those fancy hand pump things, transferring fluids was done by pipetting. Put a narrow glass tube into the liquid, suck a bit up into the tube with your mouth, slip a finger over the end in your mouth so that suction holds it in, move the tube to the target vessel, and release it.
A common prank in lab class when pipetting urine was to try and startle someone so they’d take a deeper than intended breath.
