    I almost hate to say this, and I am NOT trying to be pushy, or self-righteous, or to be one of those “if I can do it anyone can” idiots – but this is something that will help you in the long run. Especially if the IRS ever has ANY REASON AT ALL to look in your direction. The more you know about your own finances, the less chance that you’ll end up like my brother, who was basically in trouble with the government all his adult life.

    Also, these things sometimes change policies radically, and the only way you’ll know is by reading the damn statement. I lost a retirement fund – THE WHOLE BLESSED THING – because they converted it all into company stock (because I didn’t tell them NOT to), and then the company went under.

    No, I’m not paranoid about corporate fund stuff, why do you ask?
