On a related note, this is the right venue to mention that lesbian rights icon Phyllis Lyon passed away yesterday. She was 95. She and wife Del Martin founded the Daughters of Bilitis, including its newsletter, The Ladder, in 1955; wrote one of the great sociology books in the lesbian canon, Lesbian/Woman; and brought a lesbian plank to the NOW platform in the mid-70s (prior to that, NOW was surprisingly unwelcome of lesbians). Without Lyon and Martin, we might well be reading this strip in an underground comic book, purchased surreptitiously in a gay bookstore.
Travel well, friend. I hope you see your bride in the afterlife and enjoy a pain-free eternity.
