    Years ago I owned an answering and paging service. As text capable phones were coming we figured how to access ports at the cell carriers to send messages direct to phones. At the time Canada had two providers, the phone companies and Cantel. The Telco connect was fine, about 4800 as I remember. But Cantel required we ratchet down to 300 baud to get a connection.
