I remember reading in the 1960s Scouting manual that moss always grows on the north side of trees. That worked until I moved to the city. No trees, no moss.
As a child, we lived a few years in a town on the north bank of a river. It was pretty flat land. I always had a sense of where the river was. Perhaps I heard something. Anyhow, I got a reputation for having an unerring sense of direction. I DO NOT! I’ve been completely lost ever since we moved away.
