According to a quick Googling, while “grand coup” is not a recognizable term in checkers it’s used in Bridge. Bridge was much more popular in the 1950s than today (Schulz was himself a fan), and I suppose the idea is that Lucy is misapplying a term she overheard.
Yes, smashing his head with the board was a coup. It probably wasn’t luck that let her win, but at the same time it probably wasn’t skill either. He probably plays like someone I know. I’m not that skilled at checkers and I still beat them, and they claimed luck. They claimed luck each time I beat them, which was most of the times we played.

For such a young girl, I’m surprised she even knows that word or its meaning.

Considering how Charlie Brown acted the last time she won, I’m not surprised that this is HER reaction this time!

Isn’t a “grand coup” a scoring option in the mileage card game “Mille Bornes”?

A grand (or “gran”) coupe can also refer to a four-door car that has a really low rear roofline, making it look like a two-door coupe.

Every time Charlie Brown says “great Scott” It reminds me of back to the future.
