c’est l’art
Ce n’est pas des ours. — Magritte
Two bears, or not two bears, that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The mud and squalor of outside used slippers,
Or to take arms a-with soapseas of bubbles
And by opposing end them. To preen —to sweep,
No more; and by a sweep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wipe’d. To preen, to sweep;
To sweep, perchance to clean—ay, there’s the rub:
… and she was psychologically damaged for life!
There’s always some killjoy stifling artistic endeavor…
And just a few years later, Lucy’s behavior toward her brother’s creations would lead him to lament, “Great art should never be mushed up!”

Hey! She took my clay!
Ah, interesting. So Mrs. van Pelt and Mrs. Brown take turns watching the kids. I’d add Patty, Violet, and Schroder’s mothers, but for that I’d have to have their last names.
The way this strip is written, I wonder if CS originally intended Lucy and Charlie to be brother and sister?
