Serious question: Is Lucy adopted? I’ve been reading Peanuts all my life (I’m in my 50s), and it just occurred to me that Lucy saying, “They paid I don’t know how much for me in the first place” might imply that she’s adopted. Sure, it could just be Mrs. Van Pelt’s OB/GYN bill, but still. I guess I’ve never really read into the strip that much, but thinking back on Peppermint Patty’s sad story, I just have to wonder now about Lucy.

For an extra few bucks, I know a guy who can make it permanent. I’m just sayin’.
