This was long before chocolate turned out to be toxic to dogs.

Not that it matters, but that stuff can kill a dog, or at least make it sick.

Besides the fact that dogs have an uncanny ability to detect treats, this reveals something very profound about the way our society has changed. The two really little kids are depicted as walking all the way to the city limit UNCHAPERONED. This far ranging mobility of children was commonplace in the 50’s and 60’s but would be unthinkable today. Is our country that much more hostile now or are parents overly restrictive, i.e., paranoid, about the safety of their children? Whichever the case, it is a sad commentary on the status quo.

As they’re resting beside the City Limits sign both Snoopy’s and Shermy’s tongues are hanging out.

And the candy bar ain’t “krinkle,” it’s Krackle, with rice crispies (or something like them) in milk chocolate—yum!
