Now we discover the consequences of Wally helping the mining team make real progress on their project. Perhaps a little glimpse into the government of Eden Colony.
Let’s assume that the colony fathers really didn’t want that excavation to be finished. Why? Also, why would they put on a show like that-just for make-work?
Wally will be asked to get rid if his dittos or leave Eden. The crew will be ordered not to say anything about what Wally has or how this expansion was done. It will be explained away. Be surprised if they don’t declare him a warlock and burned at the stake.
Dittos are a topside (not Topsider) thing. The people of Eden may have only encountered wild Dittos; black, shapeless monsters with lots of mouths and teeth. Someone who can control them could be considered a threat.
Reality calls? Could this be a hallucination on Wally’s part. Remember that prior to the Eden loop, the last time we saw Wally and crew was on the abandon ship of “dreams/nightmares” (my name for that bit of adventure).
Only the highest ranking members of the colony government are allowed to know about dittos or have dittos, same as in Unity colony. Wally is a threat to their jobs, a potential dictator who could take over the colony and become their boss. The dittos Wally controlled were more powerful than the dittos controlled by the highest ranking members of the government in Unity where Kirbee cam from.

Whoops. Don’t ever underestimate the stupidity of bureaucracy.

The Topsiders call dittos “vermin.” What do these colonists call them?
