I’ve never had one, but I can see there are a lot of advantages to treadmills versus walking outdoors. You can stop whenever you want to and be at home; you can walk at night, or when it’s raining or icy underfoot; you can stop for a coffee or snack whenever you want; you can watch television while walking; you’re not at risk from other road users; nobody stops you to ask for directions. I’m sure there are more. One of these days we will be able to use one in virtual reality and walk anywhere in the world, admiring the foreign scenery and charming architecture, rather than always walking round the same locality.

Who needs a treadmill when you have all of outdoors to walk/jog/run in?
