@SCAATY_423: It’s Heart that is raised by a single mom, there isn’t much info about Dean’s dad other that he has an unhealthy relationship with eBay and that he wants (wanted?) Dean to play hockey to make him tough, but he does exist.
I too hope Mark is thinking of a storyline, go Dean! (Not as in leave, of course.)
Sounds like a great romance/tragedy story line, but I wonder if Mark can drag it out until Valentine’s Day before it’s revealed that he’s not moving. By which time they will have told each other that they love each other, thinking they’ll never see each other again. Which will make the next day at the bus stop VERY awkward!! (That’s my guess anyway…)
It was a Sunday strip. So if it’s serious, he’ll have to do it again tomorrow. He can’t have Dean move, of course, but it might make for an interesting story line while they panic.
If, in fact, Dean and Heart are 6 years old, why is it they were allowed to get on a bus to New Jersey…alone…in search of a Christmas tree and no parent attempted to keep track of them? In this day and age, that would never be allowed to happen.
Also, IMHO,in the past 3-4 years, millions of children in the US and elsewhere, have had to face the fact that they, along with their parent(s)have had to move and leave all their friends behind. To see how young children may have had to handle this traumatic experience is a worthwhile arc to follow.
For young children following this strip, this could be a valuable tool to show them they are not alone in this experience. Thanks, Mark.

I hope this makes a story arc. Otherwise? Worst, most pointless strip in a long time.

No doubt I’m missing something here – but I thought Dean’s dad was no longer in the picture and he’s being raised by a single mom.

That’s pretty much how it felt when my best friend that lived next door moved away when I was in 4th grade.

Is this a rerun? Seems odd to have something like this for the Sunday strip.
