And what was really strange is that everybody on that escalator was wondering how you got to the top when they were still stuck motionless on the escalator. They probably wondered what magical power you had.
Thanks to everyone else’s comments, I’ve had a great idea for a book cover For Amanda’s first book. A wide shot of a bunch of people stuck on the escalator with “?” Text bubbles over their heads, looking at Amanda wondering how she got to the top. (That says a lot If you read between the lines)
I always thought that people who got on an escalator and just stood there were weird. I used to step on and walk up, because I always viewed it as a quicker way to climb stairs, not a substitute.
Of course, now I use a cane or walker, and I’m told that escalators are too dangerous, so I would NEVER DREAM of using one these days, HONEST.

I had to look up who Mitch Hedberg was and it still doesn’t connect.

At least it wasn’t the bit about “I used to do drugs, and…”. There was no happy ending for Mitch on that one.
