Things really that bad in â92? I was in her position ten years earlier in an almost-third-world country and never faced this problem. (Maybe that went on more in more rural areas, but when it did I suspect it strongly depended on the teacherâs personality.)
I must have gone to a different sort of school. In my day the girls were hands up and answering questions all the time. Which was fine with me since most of the time I did not know the answers. At least when the teacher called on me, I did not know the answer.
I once felt excluded like that In class. I finally spoke up and said, âask me somethingâ. The teacher did, and wouldnât you know it, I didnât know the answerâŠ
I am a decade or two older than Alex. But I can report in that day and age, I was told that I couldnât play with the blocks because the boys were playing with the blocks. I screamed so loud they sent me to the social worker. And a feminist was born.
Comics exaggerate to make points. There has historically been a gap with girls going into the âhardâ professions involving using science and math, I believe Trudeau was trying to point this out.
I gather my comment to a rude person was removed.Annoying that I still get notifications that it was replied to.I hate censorship. That is what generally inhibits me from participating in many online discussions.
My daughter would not even put her hand up. She says âbut I know it anyway, and the teacher knows that I know. I want to give the other kids the opportunity to show they know it, tooâ. Problem is, in primary school, she always had A grades, and her teacher knew her well. Now she is in her first year of the high school, and doesnât understand why she would get a C only because she didnât show she would know it. Doesnât have a problem with the boys, though. It was similar with her chess lessons. She always explained the rules to the kids who didnât get them straight. The teacher would neglect her and thinking, she would not be interested in learning. My wife went mad, and picking our daughter up one day from the lesson, she said: âYou have to play against the stronger players, not only the dull ones!â Next time, she asked: âDid you play with the stronger players?â and my daughter said âyes. I played with him (pointing to a boy), he is the bestâ. My wife: âAnd, how did it go? Did he win?â My daughter: âMother, no! He is not THAT good.â

Sad how some people think that getting a âFeatured Commentâ on a comic strip is the emotional high point of their dayâŠ
