It may have been good if everyone didn’t already know that the original “Yankee Doodle Dandy” was composed by the British as an insult.
Dad burn Yankees!
This one’s funny! “Yank the Wallet” becomes Yankee Doodle. I think this is one of Jim’s more creative strips of late.
Today’s Annie strip is at http://www.gocomics.com/annie/2002/01/19/
I’m enjoying it too - as long as it doesn’t degenerate into those one-joke per ancestor panels that always make me roll my eyes in Dagwood.
As far as many people outside the USA are concerned, its citizens are all Yanks. I’m of French-Canadian descent from Massachusetts, and have lived in North Carolina for over 30 years. I always get amused when I’m called a Yankee by locals.
davidf42: Whenever I get to the Annie site, I get a strange message and cannot get out of the site. I have to shut down my computer and restart it.
Newenglandah, I thought the word “Yankee” came from the Dutch “Jan Kees” (pronounced “Jahn Case.”
See the movie 1985 Revolution with Al Pacino, Donald Sutherland, and small parts by Graham Greene, Annie Lennox, and Robbie Coletrane.
They sing an English 4/4 time version of Yankee Doodle.
Hardy har har. So funny I forgot to laugh!
Dook - That’s very strange. I have no explanation why that would happen as I use the link every day.
A pickpocket hanging from the Wallet family tree! Or a politician.
If Devonshade is silent on this one, he is truly gone. I miss his sense of humor.
Yankqui? Could be a Spaniard in the works.
