Well, that question raises an interesting point. When Frank King originated the strip, the places and characters seemed to be patterned after his hometown of Tomah, Wisconsin. But during the Dick Moores era, the characters seemed to become influenced by Moores’ adopted home state of North Carolina, which is (or was) also home to Jim Scancarelli.

Yes, every word is true. That’s how The War Between the States ended. I recall Beau was quite surprised when the Major grabbed his towel.

So the Wallets were Southerners originally? Nice drawing of Lee, by the way.

Does Jim intend to review all of the Southern surrenders, or just the one by General Lee?

Hmmm. With what you can see of Pvt. Beauregard… he looks a lot like Slim!
And by the way, the rendering here of General Lee looks nothing like any I have ever seen.

Walt has enough material there for a 67th book in the Bible.

And the original artwork showed Lee’s uniform was blue. Nice of the GoComics folks to adjust the color…..

To quote Great -Grandmother, “The South laid down her arms, weary of chasing Yankees.”
