Back in the 70’s when relevancy was more important than standardized test results, the HS where I taught offered all sorts of 9 week mini courses. The purpose of one of the classes was to build self esteem. The kids in that class had to make and wear “ILAC” buttons—the letters were for “I AM LOVABLE AND CAPABLE.” Of course, nobody really stopped to think that ILAC could be pronounced as I LACK—except for the bullies who would come up with all kinds of qualities they thought the kids wearing the buttons lacked.
