My parents had that same problem if I had my nose in a book. I actually learned to read later in life than most kids (because I had horrible teachers in the school system I was in), but when I did, I became a voracious bookworm who could hardly put down a book. The first request to “Take out the garbage” might come in around 10:00 AM and a typical reply would be, “When I finish this sentence/paragraph/page/chapter.” The last request would come in the form of a demand several hours later with the tone of voice indicating that it would behoove me to move my posterior with utmost haste to comply!
