It is only the Lemmings of Leng who do that. When they die after hitting the water new little ones bud on their corpses then swim away. A very strange life cycle that Disney found by accident when he located the footage from 1936. We will never know who went into Leng and filmed them, and other bizarre animals on Eastman Color film then got out. (Leng, like Pan-o-ha-e, is a mythological place some say is beyond the Himalayas, or the center of Antarctic or is in some other dimensional realm where only dreamers seek it.)

It’s kinda funny how ubiquitous this legend is… and disney made the whole thing up. Lemmings really don’t do that.
