Looking at Calvin’s shocked expression in panel one you have to give him credit for his enthusiam after losing 165 games in a row. Maybe # 166?

Calvin definitely has perseverance or is it now perversity to keep on playing checkers with Hobbes?

For the sake of my college career, it’s best if I just let my spirit and not my physical manifest smash a window with my bare hands after dying yet again in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

It’s not so easy to beat Hobbes in this game, but perhaps Calvin is better in other things! Talents are not equal for all people!

Nabu…I thought I had read that “tiger” quote somewhere. A web search says its source is unknown (maybe a Chinese proverb), but it appears in the novel Lucifer’s Hammer by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven. They attribute it to Gordon R. Dickson, another SF writer. I must have seen it in the novel, many years ago.

Gordon Rupert Dickson originated your quote. He died ten years ago yesterday.

He was an American science fiction author. He was born in Canada, then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a teenager. He is probably most famous for his Childe Cycle and the Dragon Knight series. He won three Hugo awards and one Nebula award.

Calvin me thinks you relies on your spirit too much,to get yourself out of the responsibility hard work or deep thinking.

When it comes to board games my spirit’s easily distracted! I’d rather be in some kind of physical competition than sitting there for hours bent over a board game! I admire people that can get lost there but it’s just not for me.

Calvin’s spirit just can’t win no matter what it does!
