Love it! And here I preached on how much everyone loves rules and laws–and used as examples preparing tax forms (for the adults) and math (for the kids)…
In my first six months of college, I’ve missed class for nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, flu, a broken knee and just because I needed sleep. Needless to say, I’m going home to take a break for a few months.
Interesting formulae Nabuquduriuzhur. While myself I endulge in the first and not in the second, I will admit that it is quite popular on today’s campi. I personally enjoy that mixture of barley and hops. Anyway…
I think if Calvin put as much time into his math as he does into learning the other sciences such as paleontology and biology then he would do quite well. And he’s a great poet/storyteller. Almost a Homer!
I teach first grade and have several students like Calvin. If any of them could write as well as he appears to in several episodes (?–I can’t think of the right term), I’d give them a pass on the math and channel their energies into writing. However, most kids don’t have a clue about punctuation and other conventions that make their writing more readable until they’re in third grade.

Do I sense another trip to the principals office and possibly another adventure that awaits.
Yukoner almost 14 years ago
It would be easier to simply learn the math.

Was that trip really necessary?

If those aliens came all this way to look for a math genius, they better look harder!

Surely they look for a math genius.
But I want to know, what he did to escape!

Genius poetry - who else but Watterson could get lowered and aboard to scan! And as for cerebellum and tell’em…brilliant!

I don’t think you’ll be looking so smug in the principal’s office, Calvin, which is where I think you’re going next.
Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!

An “F” on your extremely “fuzzy math”, Calvin, but an “A+++++” on your English/Grammar poetry!
kab2rb almost 14 years ago
I agree all his English poetry is better then what I could have done. Though how he relates his poetry with monsters is something else.

Oh the wonderful mind of this little boy…I wish we could see Calvin when he grows up!

Calvin has an extreme vocabulary for being six :D
Mythreesons almost 14 years ago
Up through the sixth panel, I thought the story line would end with Calving in the dentist chair. Math didn’t enter my mind until the last two.
