The word “reproduce” seems like a misnomer for humans, since kids never seem to be a reproduction of their parents. In Calvin’s case, his parents are keenly aware of this.
pouncingtiger, it’s probably an opinion that will vary from family to family. After Calvin, I’m sure the decision was easy to stop at one - though I’m sure in hindsight he would have preferred to stop at none.
Slip-Slidin Away. Cartoons are “The Great Escape” We are all here, because we’re not all there. Don’t take Life so seriously and it will be a lot more enjoyable. LOL!!!!!!
All I know is, the older my granddaughter gets, the more naps I feel I need! My granddaughter says all the time, “Grandma I don’t need a nap” to which I respond, “Well, grandma needs a nap, so we’re taking one!”

“… the importance of reproducing was greatly overrated.” Gee, I wonder why Dad would say that? Hmm. (notice the sarcasm here)

Calvin does seem to notice one important fact at the end though. :-)

I don’t mind becoming food, as long as I get to decide when!!

The idea of killing one to save a million is getting more common.
On the issue of mating, I would probably only attempt to have a child once every seven years.

Hobbes is right, food is good and it don’t matter if its produce or re-produce

Careful, Calvin! Remember… tigers eat their young! Hobbes’ last line should be a warning!

Hi Destiny: Yes, it’s always more convenient when one’s perspective is from the top of the food chain.
Hi Yukoner: I think the answer is: E. Downright euphoric.

Hobbes’ definition of vegetables and grains: Stuff Food eats.
As an aside, I have heard that the best Nature shows are those with sex and violence–animals chasing down others for the kill, and animals mating.
As an aside to the aside, I heard of a biology professor who used to describe the four “Fs” of animal drives: Flight, Fighting, Feeding, and … Mating.

Did you ever notice, how Calvin and Hobbs, seem to have their deepest, most philosophical, discussions, when they are going down a hill on a toboggan?

Based on Hobbes’ expression, I think he got it. But Calvin? It appears to me as though his father’s answer went right over his head.
