Actually, they wear uniforms because they are the only ones legally allowed on the playing area. It can be a penalty to come on the playing surface in football and basketball, and it’s doubtful a hockey coach would skate on the playing surface. Baseball managers are on the field of play quite a bit.

I think everyone would like to wear a baseball uni, no? Managers have an excuse: They used to play, so when they show up for work they get to put on the suit. Just like a veteran in the Veterans’ Day parade—a badge of honor, sort of. Shows you’re still in the tribe.
