Remembering a verse from a good, old song about kids: “…why can’t they be like we were, perfect in every way, oh what’s the matter with kids today?”
One of the worst moments of my life was back in 1981 in Atlanta, GA, when I had just moved for a new job. I went grocery shopping, and a couple of cute kids nearly ran into me. I smiled, I wasn’t mad.
They looked at me, and suddenly looked terrified and ran back to their mom. I was heart-broken. The problem was, there was a serial killer in the area, targeting little boys of African-American communities there. Even though I was short, female, young, and pretty harmless looking, they were afraid of me, the stranger.
You really don’t want to know what that feels like, I promise.
Second panel – isn’t Dan thinking that you are sad because you don’t have children of your own? That’s what I thought he meant in the last panel about going in a different direction…

He’s thinking that you spanked all of them, including the parents for not being there with their kids.

Please don’t work on trying to scare kids.
