    That’s what the mace was for.

    And actually, the first swords, made during the bronze age, were slightly sharp bludgeoning weapons. Bronze is a relatively soft alloy and doesn’t keep an edge very well. After the first couple of whacks, you’re basically breaking bones, not cutting them.
