Like all landscape artists, Sylvia paints what she sees. There is a lot of scenery unseen, off to the right, which is the direction she’s facing. I think she is remarkably calm for someone looking at a face that appears to her to look that way.
Sylvia’s inspiration for that painting was a squirrel who couldn’t make a decision on whether or not to cross the road until a car made the decision for it.
