    Apparently in his later years Beethoven was quite the alcoholic, and an autopsy performed after his death showed that he had severe cirrhosis of the liver, though it is uncertain if that was what killed him. You would be a drunkard too if you were a composer who never got to hear his greatest work with his own ears!
