Well there’s the proof—for whatever reason Marcie keeps calling Patty “sir”, she does realize that Patty is a girl.

YEP, from this time afterward(or rather, from July 20, 1971, afterward, when Marcie made her debut in Peanuts), Marcie ALWAYS called Peppermint Patty "sir"to her face-and for whatever REAL reason she did, we’ll NEVER know. She would, however, call Peppermint Patty by name, when Patty was talked about, in the “third person,” though, but NEVER “Peppermint Patty,” or even “Patty” to Patty’s face.

Here’s a funny story. I first saw “Peanuts” when I was a bit younger, and because Marcie kept calling her ‘sir,’ I thought Peppermint Patty was a boy, which, in my mind, was supported by the way she looked, acted, and sounded. Coupled with PP’s crush on Charlie Brown, this whole situation led me to think she was a gay boy. :P

PP never calls Marcie by name all through this arc, and we’re given the impression that she didn’t even make the effort to learn it. And then she complains about being called “sir”.
