Perhaps Lucy is crying out of GUILT, that she feels, all of a sudden, for all the times she has been mean to him. Would make sense, anyway, like in the movies, when someone whom another person has treated so poorly, is suddenly ILL, much less in the hospital, and their "tomentor"suddenly feels TERRIBLY GUILTY about it. So, it’s possible that’s why Lucy is blubbering, the way she is. HILARIOUS, in closing panel, when she starts using Schroeder’s piano, to wipe her tears, even as if to annoy him.

What could Schroeder be playing that fits the occasion? Maybe a piano transcription of Beethoven’s String Quartet 15, where one of the movements is titled “Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity, in the Lydian mode”

Knowing Lucy I’m feeling that those are fake tears that Lucy is crying.
