I have suggested this before and still believe it would improve ratings – let all the baserunners carry the bats all the way around the bases and let them use them the same way pro wrestlers use chairs.
The one time I played cricket, the opposite happened. I was batting and hit a solid line drive to the opposite field, then dropped my bat (a la baseball) and ran toward the other wicket. About halfway down, I thought I was supposed to carry my bat (I wasn’t), so I ran back to pick it up and started toward the other wicket again. I was thrown out easily, of course, players from both teams were pretty amused by the whole thing and Don Bradman’s legacy remained safe.
