Where I live, I have a squirrel who will come and knock on my patio door if he sees me sitting at my table. He knows I have a bag of walnuts close to the door and I will set something out for him from time-to-time. Clever little fellow.

squirrels are smart and learn quickly, especially when it comes to food. At our previous home, I had to hang the bird feeders from piano wire to keep the squirrels from scooting across the wire to raid the feeders.

People seem to recognize intelligence in animals only when animals display intelligence that resembles that of people.
