I went to a Halloween gathering in the ’80s. A white teenage girl was decked out, with face paint, as Tina Turner (possibly Diana Ross.) Nothing is her persona seemed disrespectful and nobody who saw it turned to stone.
The Office Supply Store just west of my suburb is in Milwaukee. Most of the staff are African American and are very helpful. As a European American I am in the minority shopping there, but I am not followed around. Same is true for the nearby home supply/lumber/garden supply store which frankly had much less helpful staff in years past when they were mainly European American. (I prefer human being to either black or white, but if I need to differentiate, I will use geography.)
Consider yourself lucky and use them as your very own personal coincierge to guide you all around your shopping experience and ask them any little nuance about what you are looking for.
