That is true… the same people who endured mockery of rock and punk decades ago now mock today’s music.

My parents used to complain about my rock music, “You can’t even understand the words!” Well, NOW you can understand the words. Happy?

I am not a big rap fan myself, but as a collage radio programmer (And Now. . . www.cklu.ca ) I have surprised myself many times sampling various artists and finding some rap that I enjoyed. That is a big part of collage radio. It does not have a agenda to promote the “hot, new thing”. So instead of hearing the “hits” we can play the obscure and independent.

I’ve been waiting 30 years for the 0:15 of Warhol Time to expire on hip-hop. Almost as long on IPAs and Facebook. Maybe Warhol wasn’t a prophet after all.

There’s popular music and there’s good music and the two don’t always intersect. As a long time DeadHead I understand that very well. I may have my favorite style but my cd collection includes jazz, classical, bluegrass, c & w and hip-hop. It’s called having an open mind.

My main roadblock with rap is that I have trouble understanding lyrics combined with music. I do like the rhythms, especially when they change unexpectedly, and then re-establish the pattern in a new way.
