I’ve done that “East Coaster wades in the Pacific” because it’s stupid to go all the way out there and not do it. My wife was afraid of sharks. I’ve done the same in the Med, FWIW, and while in France (Toulon) I ate the local food, too: Le Grande Mac et Pommes De Terre Frites (what can I say, young, starving, poor). Later I found the carts with the cheap pressed sandwiches.

Nothing beats Blue Crabs, steamed in Natty Boh beer and covered in Old Bay seasoning.
