    If I was read bedtime stories, I don’t remember them; but my mom had any number of stories about her childhood and early adulthood, that I would ask for (“tell me again about the time you …” I loved, and still love those stories—I learned so much about her, and they forged a connection between us that overcame the usual mother-daughter dissonances.

    Whew. My grandkids can’t read, yet, and it’s hard to cut out a strip from an iPad.
