Mighty quiet around here. I am going to be making two dinners today, one for tomorrow called “Zuppa d’Orzo con Salsiccia”. For tonight I am making “Shrimp and Andouille Sausage Jambalaya.” Guests are welcome.
I’ll be there cleo, as soon as I put my roast chicken in the oven. Going to roast one that will last a couple of days for piecing and such.I think I know what you are making for tmr. Is it Barley Soup with Sausage?
Yep it is Dry. It is a recipe out of an Italian Farm Cookbook by Lynn Rosetto Kasper. I am using a smoked ham hock. It sounds very good. We got the cookbook from the Bookmobile and I may buy a copy.
We have two plum trees and an apple that we do not eat, so we just keep it as a shade tree. We have tried without success to plant some others, but LilG has just started to shift her focus from strictly ornamental to edible stuff and is still working through the kinks.
We eat the plums, the apple was here when she bought the house and it is a transparent and we have enough to do without harvesting it to make applesauce or pies or whatever.
Too bad you don’t have deer around there. They LOVE apple trees! My mom and dad had apple trees, the deer would come out and eat the apples off the trees. Mom used to use the apples for pies and applesauce (Man could she cook and bake!) but daddy never kept after the trees, and when they got Pepper, a puppy gift from us) he stopped spraying altogether so Pepper wouldn’t get into the poison. She would eat the apples off the ground!
We definitely have deer! That is why I had to buy the new raspberry canes.
It is too bad that you have to sign in all the time Dry! If I walk away from my computer for a few hours I am having to shut it down and restart it to get it to do anything.

I had to go to a nursery half an hour’s drive to pick up the raspberry canes I was looking for, but at least I have them.

I love to use ham hocks for recipes. They flavor the dish so much more so than just regular ham.
Do you have any fruit trees, cleo? I can’t remember if you ever said or not, but if you don’t, you should.

Actually that is untrue, I have to turn my surge protector off and on and then hit the power button on my computer.
