I dug up over half my front yard and put in terraced planters for my rose garden and another sloping planter for my butterfly garden which is full of brightly colored sage, buddleia, marigold, milkweed, etc. My neighbors compliment me all the time on my plantings, and often stop to watch the butterflies or accept a cut rose if I happen to be out there with my clippers. I still mow the remaining grass, but there’s so little that it only takes about 15 minutes. I like to think I’ve raised the aesthetic values of my neighborhood (I don’t know about the property values, but it can’t hurt)
