Nana’s going to have sunburnt elbows! Back in the late 1980’s, when I owned a horse and was riding regularly, I decided I did not want a “farmer’s tan” (the result of wearing a tee-shirt), so I went to Goodwill and bought a bunch of men’s white cotton dress shirts. Because I rode English style, with britches and knee boots, the white shirts looked pretty spiffy. And, because they were cheap, it didn’t really matter when they got sweaty and smeared with horse slobber—a quick laundering and they looked spiffy again. Nowadays, although I no longer ride, I still don’t want the dreaded “farmer’s tan”, so I have many garments of sun-protective fabric, including several stylish hats that are SPF 50, and I cover up from neck to wrist and ankles (I’m also motivated by the fact that one of my medications warns “Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun”).
