Many years ago, at a job I was working, someone was trying to pass this off as a true story that happened on a local highway. They even named the spot, for good measure.
The weak point of the story was that they claimed the bike rider was killed. Well, if they were killed, how does anyone know what they were thinking right before it happened? Still, some hearers accepted and believed it.

I first saw this comic in the Grit newspaper back in the late 50s, it’s still funny.
