I’m of the personal opinion from observing my family’s own cats that house cats do this deliberately, putting themselves in walking paths of their owners, with the idea that it’ll force said owner to have to pay attention to them.
The wee tricksey beasties aren’t devils; they are clever claws & especially wonderful napping companions. You have to understand their beauty and “seeming” indifference.
Who needs cats? My Lab parks himself right in front of the stairs to the basement nightly. And, In case I spot him (hard to miss!), my wife’s lap dog will run under my feet for a “stealth trip!”

I’m surprised they didn’t rig the wire to pull down everything fragile in the house. My cats destroyed a lot.

Trip for short.

I wonder what experiment the cats are running that needs a trip wire. Perhaps this is just a spurious bit of cat humor.

Wonder why the author of this strip dislikes cats so much? I don’t remember him ever painting one of them in a positive light……….
