That “explanation” reminds me of an old “Wizard of Id” cartoon: lawyer Pettifogger (clearly the Chief Justice is a fan!) tries to defend his client from a charge of bank robbery:

“My client was merely attempting to secure a loan.”

“Then why did he leave a bomb?”

“Er……..collateral?”
